Council to Consider 183-Condo Project

Share

A proposal to build 183 condominium units in Westlake Village near a PriceCostco store, which is under construction, will be discussed Wednesday by the City Council.

The proposal, by Irvine-based Western Pacific Housing, is consistent with the Westlake North Specific Plan, which allows for construction of 250 condominium units on the 23-acre site, city officials said.

The Westlake North Specific Plan, which was approved in 1989, is undergoing revision. Tampa, Fla.-based Richland Westlake Ltd., which owns the 130 acres included in the Specific Plan, has proposed reducing the amount of office and business park space in return for an increase in retail space and residential units.

The plan covers an area bordered by Lindero Canyon Road, Thousand Oaks Boulevard, the city of Agoura Hills and the Ventura Freeway. It is divided into sections A through F. Another portion of the area covered by the Specific Plan has been set aside for a public park. The 183-unit housing development would be in section F, which is south of Thousand Oaks Boulevard at the Agoura Hills city line.

Jonathan Greenspan, an attorney who tried to stop the PriceCostco store from being built, said said he is concerned that the project would be unsightly and would not provide enough play area for children.

A public hearing will be held at City Hall at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, before the City Council takes up the proposal.
