Discussion of Drive to Police Liquor Stores

Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Kris Pitcher will discuss a $100,000 state grant, part of which LAPD’s Foothill Division will use to investigate disorderly conduct at alcohol outlets in Pacoima.

Pitcher, with the LAPD’s Administrative Vice Division, will speak Thursday at a meeting sponsored by the Pacoima Coordinating Council.

One of the coordinating council’s main goals is to call attention to the relationship between crime rates and liquor outlets in Pacoima. The state grant will pay the salary of an “Operation ABC Los Angeles” coordinator from the LAPD to patrol bars, nightclubs, liquor stores and convenience stores in the Foothill Division.

The officer will target establishments that have a history of violations such as selling alcohol to minors, permitting alcohol to be carried off site, serving liquor to visibly intoxicated people and permitting prostitution. The officer will also patrol problem liquor outlets in the 77th Division in South Los Angeles. Funds, provided by the state’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, were obtained with the help of Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon.

Thursday’s meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Valens Recreation Center, 10736 Laurel Canyon Blvd. in Pacoima.
