Park, Beach Trail Top City’s List of Priorities
A community park for Forster Ranch, a four-mile beach trail and revitalization of the downtown shopping district are the top three projects on the city’s wish list for the coming fiscal year, City Council members said after their annual review of “vital few priorities.”
After considering 45 proposals, the council agreed that the long-awaited Forster Ranch park should have the highest priority. The project will be the topic of a neighborhood forum at 6:30 p.m. today in the multipurpose room of Truman Benedict Elementary School.
After the top three projects, others high on the list are a new 4,300-foot guardrail between the railroad track and Coast Highway from Camino Capistrano to Avenida Estacion, as well as construction of a Vista Hermosa interchange to link a proposed development along the Marblehead coastal region with Interstate 5.
“We need it for the ultimate development of the Marblehead area, as well as for the economic development of other areas of the city,” City Engineer Bill Cameron said.
Now that the council has given the city staff its priorities, the feasibility of funding each project will be studied. That is the first step in drawing up the city’s budget for next year, City Manager Michael W. Parness said.
The new budget will be considered for approval in June, Parness said.
