Westside : Culver City Strives for Recognition With Sign Project

Share

Culver City officials want to make sure people know where Los Angeles ends and their city begins.

To that end, the city erected a four-foot high letter C on the slope under the San Diego Freeway at Sepulveda and Centinela boulevards, a gateway to Culver City from the west. In the next month, white aluminum letters spelling out the rest of the name Culver City will be set up and illuminated at night.

The project includes landscaping the slope.

“It’s important for people to know that they’re entering Culver City,” said Councilman Ed Wolkowitz. “Culver City is a separate jurisdiction, and I think it’s important for people to know there is another city.”

The sign and landscaping plan is one of several projects that the city has in the works to distinguish Culver City from its large neighbor.
