Strategy for Dole
Re “Dole’s Return to the Senate Is an Audition,” Column Right, March 31:
Charles Krauthammer has correctly identified the program that Sen. Bob Dole must follow to win the presidency. Krauthammer’s priorities are precisely on target. Dole should go back to the contract. He must team up with House Speaker Newt Gingrich and they must show that they can get the right kind of legislation through Congress.
Let President Clinton be the obstructionist bad guy that he is and veto if he will. No points will be gained and certainly nothing good will be achieved by working with this administration.
Before working with Clinton and compromising, Dole must not forget about the hunter who was looking for a fur coat and accepted the invitation from the bear who was looking for breakfast.
