Obituaries : Gladys M. Baldwin; Retired Legal Secretary

Gladys M. Baldwin died Tuesday at her Ventura home after battling cancer. She was 84.

Baldwin, who was born April 26, 1911, in Lancaster, Pa., resided in Ventura County for 19 years, moving from Detroit.

She was a legal secretary, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Ventura Missionary Church, the Ventura-Santa Paula Garden Club, Friendship Club, Ventura Women’s Club and the American Assn. of Retired Persons.

Baldwin also enjoyed traveling, was an avid seamstress and loved to bake pies.

“She made beautiful clothes, she knit and crocheted, and taught me everything I know about sewing,” said her daughter, Marilyn Partrite of Ventura. “She loved to work with her hands and loved to paint. She was a great pie maker. All my friends and kids will miss her lemon meringue pies. She was a jolly person and loved to laugh.”

She was preceded in death in 1980 by her husband, Kenneth R. Baldwin.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her son, Bruce Baldwin of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Santa Paula Cemetery. The Rev. John Cherrie of Ventura Missionary Church will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Livingston Hospice in Ventura.
