Family Fishing Derby Scheduled

Soroptimist International of Fillmore is looking to lure anglers hook, line and sinker to Lake Piru on April 20 for the sixth annual Imogene Vest Family Fishing Derby.

More than $1,000 in cash prizes and fishing equipment will be awarded to winners in the adult and child categories. All children who participate will receive a fishing starter kit that includes hooks, sinkers and bait.

In addition, a free children’s casting contest begins at 11 a.m., with the winner receiving a rod and reel.

Lake Piru boasts a variety of fish, including bass, crappie and rainbow trout.

Event proceeds support a $1,000 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior at Fillmore High School.

Entry forms are available at the Fillmore Area Transit office, 234 Central Ave., and the Chamber of Commerce, 510 Main St.
