8 Families File Lawsuit Charging Slum Conditions

Eight families filed a negligence lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday against their landlords, demanding repairs of the Hollywood apartment complex and payment for past suffering.

Landlords Barry and Nancy Wallman of Agoura Hills were accused of slum violations in February, plaintiffs’ lawyer Daniel Grunfeld said. The Wallmans could not be reached for comment.

“This is not a case about another slab of paint that has to be put on a building in Hollywood,” Grunfeld said. “We’re talking about children and families who have mice walking across them at night and cockroaches running through their food.”

The 24-unit low-income housing complex at 1830 N. Cahuenga Blvd. has exposed electrical wiring, defective plumbing and an inadequate supply of hot water, Grunfeld said.
