Developer Appeals Subdivision Rejection
One of the biggest home builders in Southern California on Friday filed an appeal with the Ventura city clerk, asking the City Council to overturn the Planning Commission’s rejection of a huge subdivision in eastern Ventura.
The appeal was filed on behalf of Beazer Homes, which had applied to city officials to build a 227-unit residential tract on a sprawling lemon orchard off Telegraph Road.
Planning Commission members last month rejected the application in the face of overwhelming opposition by neighborhood residents.
Most of those arguing against the development complained that the new homes would bring too much traffic to Telegraph Road and overwhelm neighborhood schools.
Others complained that the farmland should remain zoned for agricultural use.
No one at Orange County-based Beazer Homes was available Friday to discuss the appeal. Officials at the city clerk’s office said the appeal would be heard by the City Council later this month or in May.
