Share

Pablo R. Orozco, a longtime Ventura County resident and farm laborer, has died at the age of 91.

Born in Mexico on June 29, 1904, Orozco immigrated to California at age 13, settled in Oxnard and began work as a farm laborer.

Except for 10 years in Santa Maria, he spent the rest of his life in Oxnard. He worked a tractor in the fields.

He did not retire until the age of 70 and then spent much of his time gardening.

“He loved his job,” said his daughter, Estella Carranco. “There was nothing that would change that for anything. He loved being out in the fields.”

In addition to Carranco of Port Hueneme, he is survived by daughters Celia Pasmant of Los Angeles, and Mary San Pedro, Angie Rodriguez, Esther Pasmant and Rachel Gallegos, all of Oxnard; and a son, Sylvester of Santa Maria.

A rosary will be said at St. Anthony’s Church in Oxnard at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mass will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday with burial following at the Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the James A. Reardon Mortuary in Oxnard.
