More Turbulence Over Airport Vote

Share

Now that the George Argyros International Airport appears closer to reality, isn’t anyone else scared that one man can spend more than most of us will make in our lifetimes ($2 million) to get his way twice? What is Mr. Argyros’ real agenda?

I think it’s time to change the way measures are done by limiting the amount one contributor can donate (maybe $10,000?).

I also have a great idea for anyone who wishes to live close to an international airport. Move to Los Angeles. You will then appreciate what Orange County is and what it will become if George’s airport is built.

* In this age of user-friendly software and user-friendly appliances etc., it is time that election materials and ballots are written in user-friendly language.

Reforms are needed to make sure ballot measures are written so that a YES vote means yes and NO means no. Measure S, regarding the fate of an airport at El Toro, is a recent but not the only example of something seen all too often during elections. With Measure S you had to vote yes if you didn’t want the airport and no if you wanted it. What nonsense!

I heard comments from many intelligent, educated and informed people trying to decipher the “double talk.” A measure written like that has the (intentional?) result of confusing the public. I think it is time that this practice be eliminated. User-friendly language would improve voter understanding so their vote actually meant what they wanted it to. Reducing voter confusion might even increase turnout at the polls--at least get it over 35%.

* Hey you supporters of Measure S. The people have spoken--twice!

Quit wasting taxpayers’ money trying to overturn what taxpayers have voted for.

* Will two major airports in Orange County, located less than five miles apart, really improve the quality of life for all county residents? The saga continues.
