San Gabriel Valley : CONTRACT TERMINATION

Share

The Pasadena City Council on Monday axed a contract with a company that locates underground utility lines for construction crews in the city after a near fatal explosion that occurred after a power line was incorrectly marked by at least two feet.

Council members took the action after the city attorney said the contract with Underground Technology Inc. could be terminated within 15 days without cause. City staff who completed underground line locating until last year will assume the work.

Last week, the council suspended work by the firm pending the city attorney’s advice and a staff investigation into the March 25 explosion. A water and power employee operating a digger survived cutting into an alleged incorrectly marked 17,000-kilowatt underground power line in Old Pasadena because he was holding on to rubber.
