CSUN Benefit Will Capitalize on Comedy

It’s no joke: Cal State Northridge will play host to a parade of fools this evening during an annual benefit for the music department.

The occasion is the April Fool’s Concert, a two-hour cavalcade of mirth featuring nearly two dozen faculty members in humorous skits.

Department spokeswoman Rose Mathias said the annual concert, the first in two years, is designed to raise money for music scholarships. Mathias said last year the staff was busy moving back into its post-quake quarters on campus.

Developed by staffers Pat Kuhn and Guy Fabre, the concert will begin at 8 p.m. and will consist of a series of scripted acts with many spontaneous elements as well, Mathias said. Performers will include professors David Aks, Rowena Hammill, David Scott, Mary Shamrock and William Toutant.

“Our faculty . . . during performances, they’re always very serious,” Mathias said. “This is a time for them to not be serious.”

The concert will be held in CSUN’s Recital Hall, located in the Music Building. General admission tickets are $6.50; seniors and students, $3.50. Parking is free in Lot A at the northeast corner of Nordhoff Street and Darby Avenue.
