From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Hundreds of residents of the western Montana site of a train derailment may not be able to return home for a week or more because of toxic chlorine gas leaking from tank cars, officials said. Residents of Alberton, Mont., will not be able to return home for at least 72 hours--and possibly a week or longer--because of a toxic plume of chlorine gas that hangs over the area, emergency services official Dan Rapkoch said. More than 100 people were treated at four hospitals. Officials said nine people were kept overnight, while the rest were treated for respiratory problems and released.
