Teacher Caught Yelling in Tape Recording by Student

A sixth-grade teacher has been placed on administrative leave after one of his students tape-recorded him yelling at his class.

The unidentified teacher at Palmdale Learning Plaza was placed on leave with pay Thursday pending completion of an investigation by the Palmdale School District, district officials said.

On the tape, the teacher can be heard telling a student, “I’ll spit all over you if you don’t shut up.” He was responding to a student who asked that he stop sprinkling her with saliva as he spoke.

“When I heard that tape, I was shocked,” said Julio Rosado, whose daughter Jessica secretly made the tape.

Winston Best, assistant superintendent of personnel services, said while the district is looking into the matter, the decision to place the instructor on administrative leave was not punitive.

Also, Best said, the taping was illegal.

“The student has violated the teacher’s rights by tape-recording him without the teacher’s permission, without the school’s permission,” he said.
