Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Report to Correct Downsizing Figures

A White House study to be released at the end of this month suggests that over all, the harmful consequences of U.S. corporate downsizing have been exaggerated in recent news reports, the New Yorker magazine reported in its latest issue. Quoting from that study and others, the magazine said that the number of long-term jobs is not decreasing and that the probability of finding a new job after being laid off may have increased over the past decade.
