World IN BRIEF : INDONESIA : 14 Die After Soldier Opens Fire in Hangar
A gun battle broke out when an army lieutenant opened fire in an airport hangar in New Guinea. The military said at least 14 people were killed and 11 wounded. The shootings occurred in a region that has been the scene of violence linked to a U.S.-owned copper mine. But the army said there was no link between the latest shootings and the mine. A human rights group said the shootings apparently were caused by a dispute between two military units. The gunman, identified as a member of a special forces unit seeking the release of hostages held by separatist rebels, was captured and was being returned to Jakarta, the Indonesian capital.
