MTA Reduces Noise Levels on Green Line in Hawthorne
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said Tuesday that it has reduced noise levels on about a one-mile segment of the Metro Green Line in Hawthorne.
Residents in the Holly Glen area have registered complaints about noise levels between the Marine and Douglas stations. The MTA then began studying the problem on the light-rail line.
The noise was reduced by six decibels after the MTA smoothed out rails, officials said. “We have achieved a maximum noise level of 72 decibels,” said MTA Chief Executive Officer Joe Drew.
