Peter Haden-Guest; British Peer, Former U.N. Official

Peter Haden-Guest, 82, former United Nations official and a member of Britain’s House of Lords. A native of London, he studied history at Oxford University and had a brief career as a ballet dancer in the 1930s. He was an intelligence officer in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II and later moved to New York. Haden-Guest worked with the United Nations’ executive branch, the Secretariat, from 1946 until his retirement in 1972. On the death of his brother in 1987, Haden-Guest became the fourth baron of Saling and took his seat in the House of Lords. On Monday in Los Angeles of cancer.
