‘Star Trek’ Creator’s Ex-Wife Loses Legal Round: A state appeals court ruled against the first wife of the late “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry in her bid to share in profits stemming from television spinoffs of the original 1960s series. Eileen A. Roddenberry had argued that a 1969 divorce settlement giving her 50% of Gene Roddenberry’s profit participation income from “Star Trek”--then considered a commercial failure--should also include profits for the later spinoffs “Star Trek: the Next Generation” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” an amount estimated at about $30 million. Court papers show Eileen Roddenberry did receive as of 1995 about $13.8 million generated by the original “Star Trek.” It was not immediately known if she will appeal.
