Costly Clubs Taken From Golf Shop

The pro shop at Yorba Linda Country Club was burglarized early Wednesday by thieves who made off with about $12,000 worth of premium golf clubs, authorities said.

The burglars apparently used a crowbar to force open the front door of the pro shop at 19400 Mountain View Ave. and triggered a silent alarm as they carted off several dozen of the most expensive golf clubs, a store employee said.

“This was the high-end stuff, irons that cost $1,000 a set and $300 woods,” employee Kevin Claborn said. “They were professionals. They definitely knew what they were after.”

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the silent alarm at 2:15 a.m. and called in a canine unit, hoping that the suspects might still be inside the building, Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Tom Garner said.

The store was empty, though, and there were apparently no witnesses to the crime, Garner said.

The stolen clubs include brand names such as Cleveland, Callaway and Taylor Made, Claborn said. Investigators ask that anyone with information on the crime or the stolen property call the Sheriff’s Department at (714) 834-6490.
