Obituaries : C. Franklin Segesman; Retired Police Officer

C. Franklin Segesman, a retired police officer and investigator, died Wednesday at his Camarillo home after a long illness. He was 62.

Segesman, who was born Dec. 22, 1933, in Los Angeles, had been a Ventura County resident for 40 years.

He retired as a sergeant with the Santa Paula Police Department after 15 years and, on Jan. 4, he retired as an investigation supervisor for the Ventura County Public Social Services Agency’s welfare fraud department, where he worked for 20 years.

Segesman was interested in computers, having run a bulletin board for the Channel Islands P.C. Users Group, and enjoyed radio-controlled airplanes, theater, music and boating.

“He had an interest in just about everything,” said his wife, June Segesman. “He enjoyed theater and music. He was an incredible audiophile, and had an incredible sound system and invited anyone who was interested in sound to come listen to it. He lived aboard a boat for nine years and made many, many trips to the Channel Islands.”

Segesman was past president of Plaza Players Community Theater and a former member of the Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club. He served on the board of directors of the Public Employees Assn. of Ventura County.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Janice Marker of Santa Paula; his father and stepmother, Robert and Ida Segesman of Crescent City; his mother, Lillian Keniston of Yucca Valley; stepsons James Graham of Chula Vista, Steven Graham of Asheville, N. C., and Timothy Graham of Goleta, and his brothers, David Segesman of Bakersfield, Robert Segesman of Crescent City, Blue Segesman of Ben Lomond and John Segesman of Barstow.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary Chapel in Camarillo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
