22 Brazilian Peasants Killed in Clash With Police

RIO DE JANEIRO —
Twenty-two peasants were shot to death and dozens wounded in a clash with police during a demonstration over land in Brazil’s Amazon jungle, authorities said Thursday.
One officer was slain and six were wounded late Wednesday as they confronted peasants demanding land near the town of Eldorado de Carajas, officials said.
