William Levin; Lawyer, Jewish Leader, L.A. Commissioner

William Levin, 73, attorney, Jewish and political leader and former Los Angeles city commissioner. A Pennsylvania native educated at Georgetown Law School, Levin was a partner in the North Hollywood firm of Levin, Ballin, Plotkin & Zimring, and served as president of the San Fernando Valley Bar Assn. He was president of Temple Judea in Tarzana and of the San Fernando Valley Jewish Federation and served on the boards of the Jewish Federation Council, American Jewish Congress and Bet Tzedek. He had earned awards from the Valley Interfaith Council, American Jewish Congress, Jewish Federation Council and Jewish Family Service. Active in liberal behind-the-scenes politics, Levin helped win five terms for former Mayor Tom Bradley, who appointed him to the Los Angeles Convention Center Commission. Levin was also active on the Fair Housing Council, Coro Foundation and United Way. On April 14 in Los Angeles.
