Sunland-Tujunga : Historic Home Tour to Fund Scholarships

Share

The Sunland-Tujunga Coordinating Council and Sunland-Tujunga Little Landers Historical Society will sponsor a historic home and garden tour Sunday to raise funds for scholarships.

The tour features six homes built between 1905 and the 1920s, including a two-story stone house built around 1923 by a blind man who used a system of levers, ropes and pulleys in the construction process. The garden behind the house still contains some of the original shrubs and trees he planted.

Also featured is a stone and wood house built in 1912 on what was once a working ranch. Design highlights include beveled-glass windows, French doors off the dining room and built-in cabinets in a breakfast room. The grounds include an old lathe house, a canary aviary and a walnut shed.

A large stucco, Spanish Mediterranean-style house built in 1927 is also on the tour. It was once part of a 42-acre estate. The dining room ceiling is made of removable stained glass panes.

Tour tickets cost $10 and may be purchased between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Bolton Hall Museum, 10110 Commerce Ave.

Proceeds from the tour will benefit the scholarship fund at Verdugo Hills High School in Tujunga. Tour hours will run from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
