Share

The Hermosa Beach City School District superintendent announced that she will leave the seaside school district in June to take the top job at Ventura County’s Ojai Unified School District.

Gwen Gross, who has headed the 900-student school district for four years, will take charge of the large Ojai district beginning July 1. The eight-campus school district has 4,000 students. Gross said the job offer was a good career opportunity and offered a much shorter commute from her home in Westlake Village.

Gross has worked as a principal in the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Laguna Beach school districts.

The school board voted 4 to 1 last week to spend $16,000 to hire Management Analysis and Planning Associates to help find a new superintendent.

Gross was praised for improving community relations and staff morale during her four-year tenure. During that time she worked with other local superintendents to develop the South Bay Advanced Technology Consortium to get grants from businesses and the government for technology programs.
