Van Nuys : High School Seniors Tour College Campus
Valley College opened its doors, robotics laboratory and broadcasting studios Tuesday and today to some 600 high school seniors from around the Valley during senior days, designed to display the school’s facilities and acclimate teens to the college atmosphere.
Students from Burbank, Grant, Francis Polytechnic, Van Nuys, Monroe, Burroughs and North Hollywood high schools attended the annual event that includes a campus tour, a performance by the dance department and a chance to meet with college administrators, faculty and students.
“It gives the students an idea of what we have to offer,” said Selma Cohen of the school’s counseling office.
At senior days, the high-school students attend one workshop--choosing from topics such as disabled services, financial aid, transfer programs, athletics, Latino programs, job skills training or student perspectives. They also attend one educational program--about social services, math and science, fire technology, child development, fashion design, the arts, communications, business administration, computer science or health sciences.
