El Alisal (the place of the Sycamore), once the home, garden and passion of Los Angeles civic leader Charles Fletcher Lummis in Highland Park, is a shaded three-acre grove of giant sycamore and eucalyptus trees, large flowering ceanothus shrubs, native wildflowers, drought-tolerant gardens and a rambling stone-clad house surrounded by a herbal moat of lavender, rosemary and cistus.
