A U.S. Marine on Okinawa was sentenced to three months’ confinement Friday for joining in a sex show and sexually harassing women, in one of several cases that have damaged the reputation of American troops in Japan.

Marine Sgt. Demetris Price, 29, of Jersey City, N.J., was reduced in rank to private and will forfeit his pay during his confinement in the Marine brig at Camp Hansen on Okinawa.

He will be given a bad-conduct discharge upon his release, defense attorney Annette M. Eddie-Callagan said by telephone from her office on the island. She said Price was accused of having gone on stage at a local nightclub in August, removing his clothes and joining in a live sex show.

Price denies the charges.

The Marine was also found guilty of sexually harassing three women in his battalion beginning in February 1995.

Other servicemen on Okinawa have been implicated in sex crimes recently, including the rape in September of a 12-year-old schoolgirl.
