SMALL FACES: Pearl Jam delivered its song for the Surfrider Foundation’s benefit album for its clean water campaign--and it’s a world away from the band’s usual grim sound. It’s a version of “Gremmie Out of Control,” a funny, obscure, 1964 surf-craze song by the Silly Surfers (actually producers Jimmie Haskell and Gary Usher) that PJ’s Mike McCready found in his record collection. The album, “Mom: Music for Our Mother Ocean,” is due July 2. . . .

Music of the Grateful Dead has been given a jazz setting by saxophonist David Murray for his upcoming album “Dark Star,” which also features former Dead member Bob Weir on “Shoulda Had Been,” a new song written by the pair for a musical-in-development about baseball great Satchel Paige. . . .
