Filipino Activist Appointed to Panel
Victorino Mercado, an Oxnard resident active in the Filipino community, has been appointed to the Ventura County Civil Service Commission.
Ventura County Supervisor John K. Flynn, in nominating Mercado to the commission, described him as analytical and intelligent and said he possessed “excellent people skills.”
The commission, which convenes at least once a month, oversees the administration of the county employee civil service merit system and mediates civil service employee grievances.
Retired from the U.S. Navy as a master chief after serving 24 years, Mercado currently serves as chairman of the board of trustees of the Filipino Community of Ventura County Inc.
Mercado lives with his wife, Socorro, and has five children and three grandchildren.
