Toll Rises to 4 as 2 More Bodies Are Found in Wreckage of Plane
The bodies of two men were found Sunday in the wreckage of a private airplane recovered from the ocean off Dockweiler State Beach, authorities said.
Two other bodies from the plane, which went down Friday as it attempted to land at Los Angeles International Airport, had been recovered shortly after the crash.
The identities of the four victims have not been released. A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said that they are believed to be foreign nationals, but that he did not know their countries.
The twin-engine Cessna 310 left Mesa, Ariz., Friday afternoon, stopped at Deer Valley Airport near Phoenix and continued on to Los Angeles.
It crashed into the sea after its pilot told the Los Angeles control tower that he had problems with his landing gear and was going to make a new approach.
An investigator from the National Transportation Safety Board accompanied Los Angeles County lifeguards and Sheriff’s Department divers Sunday as they located the fuselage of the downed craft in 60 feet of water, about three-quarters of a mile offshore.
