Tours and Demonstrations Part of Police Open House

The Police Department will host an open house Saturday, its first in several years, featuring station tours, K-9 and motorcycle demonstrations and other special events.

There will be more than 20 exhibits, including bicycle safety, detective bureau information and firearms displays.

The open house gives people a chance to learn about the department’s programs and services but is also an opportunity for officers and residents to interact in a relaxed setting, said Capt. James Winder.

“In this community-oriented policing environment we’re in, we are seeking more and better ways to communicate with the public,” Winder said.

“The more we can meet with them and talk to them about what’s going on in their communities, and how to make their cities safer places to live and work, that’s what we’re after.”

Winder said that tours of the dispatch center and station jail will be conducted.

Photos of classic and historical police cars will be on display, and children will have the chance to have their photo taken on a police motorcycle.
