Cooler Days Forecast After Weekend Heat
The San Fernando Valley will cool off today after an unseasonably warm weekend.
Temperatures were 15 to 20 degrees higher than usual throughout the Los Angeles area Saturday and Sunday because of a strong high-pressure system that had hovered over the area for the past week. On Sunday, Van Nuys maxed out at 95 degrees.
“We usually do get a couple spells like this outside of the summer months,” said David Gomberg, National Weather Service meteorologist. Temperatures usually do not climb much higher than 80 degrees at this time of year, he said.
More seasonable temperatures in the mid-80s were expected today because of strong sea breezes that will work their way inland. Later in the week, temperatures could cool off even more, as some clouds may move into Southern California.
“The only other thing might be some winds, maybe 15 to 20 mph on Thursday and Friday,” said National Weather Service spokesman Stuart Seto.
Weather experts are watching a slow-moving low-pressure system to the north that may dip into Southern California as it moves southeast. Although low-pressure systems can bring storms, the system is not expected to generate rain, Seto said.
“With hot days like this, a low-pressure system coming in doesn’t mean a lot,” he said.
