National Semiconductor COO Quits: Ellen Hancock, one of the most prominent women in the technology industry, resigned as a chief operating officer of the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company. National Semiconductor Corp. also said it has changed its executive structure, dissolving the office of the president it established last year. That office consisted of the company’s chief executive and its three chief operating officers, Hancock, Rich Beyer and Kirk Pond. In February, the company’s former chief executive, Gilbert F. Amelio, left to become chief executive of Apple Computer Inc. Hancock, Beyer and Pond all sought to succeed him, according to industry observers. But the board appointed Brian Halla, a former executive at LSI Logic Inc., earlier this month.
