Teachers Assail Plan to Withhold Raises, Vow to Seek Mediator
Culver City teachers are enraged by a school board proposal not to distribute raises this year.
The teachers union said it will ask for a state-appointed mediator if the board does not offer a pay increase by Wednesday. The board has offered teachers a 1% one-time bonus for this year, but it would not be made a permanent part of the salary scale, said David Mielke, president of the Culver City Federation of Teachers. Teachers plan to attend the school board meeting tonight to further argue their position, he said.
Assistant Supt. Gladys Phillips-Evans said the said the school district will continue to negotiate with the teachers.
