Rockwell Gets Grant to Convert Ohio Auto Parts Factory

Rockwell International Corp. said it received a $750,000 grant from the state of Ohio to help convert an auto parts factory there from military to commercial production.

The grants for training and equipment purchases will assist the company in maintaining production at the plant in Newark, Ohio, Rockwell said. The plant, which makes heavy-vehicle axles, components and other parts, employs about 1,050 people.

Plant Manager Chuck Hugan said Rockwell is committed to making $25 million in capital investments during the next several years and to retaining a majority of the current work force.

Like other Rockwell businesses, the Newark plant is converting from military production and now serves the heavy-duty commercial truck, bus and specialty vehicle markets, the company said.
