City Approves Home Project on Farmland
A Newport Beach developer has won permission to build 105 homes on farmland in Saticoy.
The Ventura City Council voted 5 to 1 Monday night to approve Wittenburg-Livingston Inc.’s plan to build next to an existing housing tract.
Councilman Gary Tuttle cast the dissenting vote. Mayor Jack Tingstrom was absent, recovering from a minor heart attack he suffered last week.
No one from the public spoke either in opposition or support of the plan during a public hearing.
“It is so far out there, nobody cares,” Tuttle said before the vote, citing concerns about overcrowding schools and other effects on services in the area. “I won’t support any more east-end build-out.”
Wittenburg-Livingston was granted permission to build the subdivision during the city’s housing allocation process in 1994.
To mitigate community concerns over the project, the developer agreed to pay $4,200 per unit to the school district. The developer will also pay the city $3,500 per lot for recreational and cultural improvements.
