City OKs Funds for Center Computers

A plan to develop a community youth center in Reseda was given a boost Tuesday when the City Council voted to spend $6,400 to buy computers and printers for the center.

At the behest of Councilwoman Laura Chick, who represents Reseda and other parts of the west San Fernando Valley, the council voted to take the money from an office fund set aside for community cleanup projects in her district.

The youth center is scheduled to open in about two months in a building that will also house a police substation. The youth center will be operated by the Police Activity League Supporters (PALS) of the West Valley.

The building that will house the center and the substation is being leased for three years by a donation from the Irmas Foundation, a local philanthropist organization.

Chick’s funds will be used to buy up to five computers, several printers and the accompanying software, which area youths will be able to use on homework assignments and other projects.
