Cities May Form Planning Group

Five area cities are considering forming a regional planning group to help the Southern California Assn. of Governments create a transportation plan for the six-county area that it represents.

Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Malibu and Westlake Village would provide SCAG with data on their transportation needs. SCAG officials, who proposed the idea, said it would allow the cities to work together to solve their transportation problems.

SCAG represents Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and Imperial counties. The agency, which serves as an advisor to decision-makers, hopes to complete its Regional Transportation Plan by July 1997, SCAG officials said. Decision-makers would use the plan as a guideline in establishing transportation policies in their jurisdictions, SCAG officials said.

The Agoura Hills City Council recently voted to participate. City Manager Dave Adams said other cities have expressed interest. “Since some of the issues or concerns the Las Virgenes-area cities share are unique to this corridor, it would make sense to work together,” he told the council.

It would cost the cities nothing to participate, Adams said.
