UPS Chairman to Retire at End of Year: Kent C. “Oz” Nelson, 58, the company’s chairman and chief executive since 1989, joined UPS in 1959. A company statement said that under Nelson’s leadership, UPS had broadened its service options and underwent a multibillion-dollar technology transformation. The company said James Kelly, 53, current executive vice president and chief operating officer, will be nominated as chairman at the November board meeting. Atlanta-based United Parcel Service of America Inc. is the world’s largest package distribution company. Annual revenue grew from $12.3 billion in 1989 to more than $21 billion in 1995.
