The Orange County Ad Club included an Internet Web Site Design category for the first time at its recent annual awards ceremony.

The club, which is made up of local ad agencies, created the Web site category “because we’re all designing them,” said Stephanie Hughes-Zoch, who coordinated the awards ceremony. “I felt like if we were going to be current as the Ad Club, we had to be up on what everyone is doing.”

The Web site competition had about 25 entries, more than the newspaper advertising category but fewer than the 90 entries submitted for the magazine competition, she said. All categories were judged by ad executives from outside the region.

The inaugural winner was the self-promotional site created by Primal Media Corp., a Newport Beach company that specializes in making CD-ROM catalogs and other multimedia marketing tools.

The site, which can be found at https://www.primalmedia.com, is eye-catching. It features prehistoric art, a display of some of the company’s projects, and a “Multimedia 101” page that explains multimedia concepts and allows users to look up technological terms in an online dictionary.

The site also has a “Humor Hut” page filled with dozens of jokes sorted by category. This one, for instance, is filed under pickup lines: “Do you believe in love at first sight or do I have to walk by again?”
