Attitudes on School ‘Choice’ Hypocritical

Share

* As a parent, I support continuation of the educational program in the Conejo Valley School District at Meadows School, even though I believe it lowers academic standards. However, I find the support of school board members Dorothy Beaubien, Dolores Didio and Richard Newman for this option and parental “choice” hypocritical.

I have tried to donate the use of several excellent Pentium multimedia computer systems and perhaps a Sun workstation with the simple condition that the equipment be used in a high-tech independent study program for my son and others. If allowed, I would choose a rigorous, technology-oriented, systematic program of study for my son.

Beaubien, Didio and Newman represent an element in our California schools which helps protect the self-esteem of students in Mississippi, and “choice” is allowed only when it maintains the position of tenured instructors and administrators, many of whom are from the 1960s era.

Beaubien, Didio and Newman should be ashamed that they block choice for parents who want a more demanding program of study that will help our children succeed in the 21st century.
