Frenetic Tonys

Laurie Winer’s comments concerning the Tony Awards broadcast could not have been more on the mark (“Is This Any Way to Treat the Theater?,” June 4). What should have been a celebration of an exciting season and 50 years of Tony history turned into a race to the finish.
For those of us who love the theater, this CBS telecast was a slap in the face. Theater is a live art, and should be given the time to live--even on television.
My real hope is that those in control will read Winer’s commentary and give serious thought to what she said. This body of work deserves much more than what CBS force-fed us on Sunday evening.
