Electricians to Stay on Job at McDonnell Douglas: Electricians at the St. Louis aerospace giant voted against joining 6,700 machinists who walked off the job two days earlier after last-ditch negotiations for a new four-year contract broke down. The decision by Local 1 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which represents 260 McDonnell Douglas Corp. workers, was a boost to the company’s effort to continue production despite the machinists’ strike. By an undisclosed margin, the electricians accepted noneconomic terms of a proposed contract and agreed to continue discussions to resolve economic issues.
