Cheap Labor

Share

John S. Davis sounds like yet another employer who has fallen in love with cheap labor (letter, May 31). The reason he has “yet to see a white or black person standing by the curb hailing [his] truck down for work” is because Americans were never taught to seek work in this manner.

We were brainwashed into getting an education, doing practice interviews, writing resumes, filling out withholding forms and signing contracts. We waited in lines in employment offices, both public and private. How naive we were! We could have been standing on the curb waiting for the work to come to us!
