It’s Showtime
For 31 years, one of Universal Studios’ most popular acts has been its “Animal Actors Stage,” a live show featuring 60 creatures who have made it big in the movies and TV. . . . Among the players: Beethoven the dog, Babe the pig and Jethro the orangutan from “The Flintstones” movie. “All the animals are stars in their own right,” says company spokesman Javier Mendoza.
Creature Comfort
For the dearly departed domesticated animal, the Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park in Calabasas has provided a scenic final resting place for the past 68 years. About 40,000 furry friends are buried there, from Mae West’s pet monkey to Pete from “Our Gang” to Hopalong Cassidy’s horse Topper. . . . Five full-time staff members keep the grounds looking pretty. Said one employee: “You have more attention out here than you’d have in a human cemetery.”
Feline Files
Need to look up your cat’s pedigree? Want to find the purr-fect poem to tell your kitty how you really feel? Try the cat collection at the Glendale Central Library, possibly the world’s largest collection of feline paraphernalia, from books to paintings to cat show catalogs. . . . “We order any cat magazine, any cat book that we see,” says special collections worker Barbara Boyd. One drawback: Materials cannot be checked out.
