Another National Semiconductor Exec Quits: Richard Beyer, the company’s chief operating officer, is the second executive to leave after being passed over in the selection of a new chief executive. The departure of Beyer, 47, follows former Chief Operating Officer Ellen Hancock’s resignation in May. She said at the time that she left because of differences with the new CEO, Brian Halla. Both Hancock and Beyer said they wanted to be CEO of Santa Clara, Calif.-based National Semiconductor Corp. “I gave it my best shot,” Beyer said. Beyer and Hancock, along with Kirk Pond, had been part of a three-person office of the president. Halla dissolved that office. Beyer had been executive vice president and chief operating officer since last June.
