A car-to-car shootout at a busy intersection Friday night left three people injured and another frantically running down the street for help, authorities said.

About 8:45 p.m., four men in a car were traveling in the area of Beach Boulevard and Pacific Avenue when they were ambushed by several cars and a shootout began, police said. After the shooting, all but one of the carloads of people fled, Westminster Police Lt. James Waller said.

Someone, possibly a passenger, flagged down a patrol officer and told him that several people were injured in a car nearby, Waller said. The officer found one man with a gunshot wound to his foot and two other men with minor cuts from flying shards of glass.

The attackers were still at large Friday night and police said they believe the shooting was gang-related.
