WASHINGTON — First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton will visit seven countries in 11 days next month on a mission designed to show U.S. support for the emerging democracies of Central and Eastern Europe.
The eight-city trip, which will begin July 1, will take her to Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Estonia. She will also visit Finland.
“The trip serves to underscore the United States’ support for the newly democratic countries of the region,” said Neel Lattimore, a spokesman for the first lady.
A highlight of the trip will be Mrs. Clinton’s July 4 address about democracy over Radio Free Europe from Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, Lattimore said.
It will be Mrs. Clinton’s second overseas trip this year and her seventh solo trip abroad as first lady.
